SATS PREP YEAR 5 & 6

Our SATs Preparation Program empowers students with essential reading comprehension, grammar, punctuation, and writing skills, providing them with the confidence and strategies needed to excel. Through targeted practice and effective test techniques, we aim to maximize each student's performance and readiness for SATs success.

  1. Understanding the SATs Format

    • Focus: Familiarizing with test sections (Reading, Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation, and Writing)

    • Activities: Sample paper breakdown, test-taking strategies, goal setting

    • Skills Developed: Test format familiarity, confidence building, goal settin

  2. Reading Comprehension Skills

    • Focus: Developing inferential, retrieval, and summarizing skills

    • Activities: Practice with fiction, non-fiction, and poetry extracts, question analysis, timed comprehension tasks

    • Skills Developed: Inference, detail retrieval, summarizing, identifying themes

  3. Building Vocabulary

    • Focus: Enhancing vocabulary to improve comprehension and writing

    • Activities: Word games, synonym and antonym exercises, using vocabulary in context

    • Skills Developed: Vocabulary enrichment, understanding context clues, expanding descriptive language

  4. Grammar and Punctuation Mastery

    • Focus: Reinforcing grammar rules and punctuation usage

    • Activities: Grammar drills, sentence correction, punctuation exercises

    • Skills Developed: Grammatical accuracy, sentence structure, proper punctuation usage

  5. Spelling Strategies

    • Focus: Mastering common spelling rules and tricky words

    • Activities: Spelling drills, common exception word practice, spelling rules and patterns

    • Skills Developed: Spelling accuracy, rule recognition, memorization techniques

  6. Effective Writing Techniques

    • Focus: Developing strong writing skills across different types

    • Activities: Writing tasks on narrative, persuasive, and report structures; feedback on sentence variation and coherence

    • Skills Developed: Narrative structure, persuasive techniques, coherent paragraphing

  7. Timed Practice and Exam Techniques

    • Focus: Managing time effectively in a test environment

    • Activities: Full-length practice exams, timed sections, answering strategies

    • Skills Developed: Time management, pacing, identifying question types

  8. Review and Reflection

    • Focus: Self-assessment, recognizing improvement areas, building confidence

    • Activities: Reviewing marked work, setting personal targets, discussing progress

    • Skills Developed: Self-reflection, confidence, focused revision


Each session includes a mix of exercises, practice questions, and test-taking tips to encourage improvement and engagement. By the end of the program, students will have practiced essential SATs skills and developed effective strategies for exam success.
